Testimonials

When I was fourteen, I began to drink, which allowed me to escape feelings of inadequacy. For the first time in my life, I felt like I "fit in". Even though I got very sick the first time I got drunk, I knew I wanted to do it again, because I felt "good" when I was drunk...Free from pain and insecurities . When I was fifteen, I began to experiment with street drugs, and found I enjoyed these much more, mainly because they didn't smell. I felt I was very good at hiding the fact that I was high from my parents and everyone else. I graduated high school, only by the grace of God, and moved to Atlanta to attend dental assisting school. I became deeper involved in drug use while there. I remember when I was nineteen, realizing that I didn't know how to function without being high.....continue reading

My life began in Newfoundland, Canada, where my father was enlisted in the Navy. We stayed in Canada for two years, and moved to Georgia once his enlistment was complete. Here my mother and father both attended college and my father earned his psychology degree and became an officer in the Air Force. This began our many travels as a family. These travels took us to Mississippi first. Looking back, my time here began my feelings of inadequacy. I was told by my teacher I needed to shape up or ship out. I really wasn't sure what she meant and had no idea what I needed to do to satisfy her demand. Being in a new school and environment, I wasn't sure how to make friends as I have always been shy and unsure of myself.......continue reading

I was born in Atlanta Ga, the younger of two daughters. I have very few childhood or teenage year memories, and those I have, I believe it's from hearing the stories throughout my life. In other words, I do not have any "living the experience" memories. I do not know why and it was not until I was in recovery that I even realized this about myself. At first I wanted to find out what happened to me to cause the memory lost, so that I could blame someone/something for all my problems. Today, with the help of POH and continuing help from others, I have let go of that, and know that God will reveal to me what I need to know in his timing. ......continue reading

April 30 2012 I embarked on a journey that I never thought was going to change my life the way that it did. I just celebrated the 3rd anniversary of my sobriety. Not a single mind or mood altering substance. Three years ago I was a monster. I ripped through the lives of everyone who loved me fueled by fear and in the grips of an obsession that I couldn't fight on my own. I didn't start out that way. I was a cheerleader in high school, I made good grades. I had goals to graduate college. I also loved to party. Unfortunately the attention was what made me feel accepted and comfortable in my own skin. Because on the inside I always felt like I never fit in. . ......continue reading

Hello my name is Scott Buckner and I'm an addict. Before coming to Promise of Hope my life was on a very destructive path. I often felt hopeless and doomed to never be able to stop using drugs. I had lost everything I held dear and pushed everyone that I loved away. I knew I needed help because I tried many times to stop using on my own but failed every time. I entered Promise of Hope on November 27, 2012 and did my best to stay open minded to their suggestions and as a result this rehab saved my life. .. . ......continue reading
